Former Bayelsa State Governor and ex-Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Timipre Sylva, has resigned from the All Progressives Congress, accusing the ruling party of abandoning the principles on which it was founded. In his resignation letter dated August 31, Sylva, a founding member of the APC, said he could no longer remain in a party whose leaders allegedly operate on the belief that “all is fair in politics.”
Sylva also criticised the Bola Tinubu-led administration, saying it had disappointed the majority of Nigerians and that he saw neither a credible effort nor the possibility of reviving the government. He described the APC as a “floundering ship” and expressed confidence that Nigerians would vote for political change in the 2027 elections.
The former minister also copied the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission in his resignation letter, accusing the agency of increasingly behaving like an organ of the APC rather than an independent state institution. Sylva acknowledged that his decision could expose him and his associates to further scrutiny, but said he was willing to accept the consequences. His resignation comes amid ongoing allegations linking him to an alleged plot against the Tinubu administration, which he has consistently denied.
