Tinubu Warns Ekiti Politicians Against Early 2030 Governorship Campaigns

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has cautioned politicians in Ekiti State against beginning campaigns to succeed Governor Biodun Oyebanji in 2030, warning that premature political ambitions could distract the administration from delivering on its promises to residents.

The warning followed Oyebanji’s inauguration for a second term, which took place on Friday at the Ekitiparapo Pavilion in Ado Ekiti. The governor has pledged to focus on industrialisation, job creation and economic development during his new term.

Tinubu’s message comes as political discussions and preparations for future elections increasingly draw attention across Nigeria. Although political succession is an important part of democratic governance, early campaigns can create divisions within political parties and shift attention away from the responsibilities of elected officials.

For Ekiti State, the immediate priority remains the implementation of policies that can improve living standards, strengthen the economy and create employment opportunities for residents.

Oyebanji’s second term provides his administration with another opportunity to build on existing projects and address challenges affecting communities across the state. Industrial development, in particular, could help attract investment, support local businesses and expand employment opportunities if backed by effective policies and implementation.

The President’s warning also highlights the pressure on elected officials to balance political ambitions with the responsibility of governing. With the 2030 governorship election still years away, the focus is expected to remain on the current administration’s performance and its ability to deliver tangible results.
