Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has ordered the immediate closure of the secretariat of the dissolved Ad-hoc Committee on the Sale of Federal Government Houses in the FCT. The FCT Administration announced the directive in a statement issued on Wednesday by the Minister’s Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media, Lere Olayinka. The order means that the secretariat is no longer authorised to carry out activities on behalf of the committee following its dissolution.
The development follows the Federal Government’s decision to discontinue the committee’s activities as part of a broader review of the process surrounding the sale and management of federal government properties in Abuja. The committee had been involved in matters concerning the disposal of government-owned residential properties, but questions surrounding the process had generated controversy. With the latest directive, the FCT Administration is moving to formally end the committee’s operations and prevent further activities from being conducted under its name.
Wike’s directive is expected to bring clarity to the status of the committee and its former secretariat while the Federal Government determines how issues relating to federal properties in the FCT will be handled going forward. The closure also signals that officials and individuals previously operating through the dissolved committee should cease representing it in any capacity. The FCT Administration is expected to provide further guidance on the administration and disposal of affected government properties as the government’s new arrangements take effect.
