Atiku Raises Security Concerns Over Mysterious Credit to Private Bank Account

Former Vice President and African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar has raised concerns after an unknown individual transferred money into one of his private bank accounts without his knowledge or approval. According to a statement issued by his media aide, Phrank Shaibu, the payment carried the narration “Contribution Electioneering Campaign,” despite the fact that neither Atiku nor his campaign team solicited or authorised any such donation. He described the incident as suspicious, noting that the account is a personal one whose details are not publicly available.

Atiku questioned how an unknown person obtained the confidential banking details of his private account, warning that the development could indicate a serious breach of financial privacy. He argued that if the banking information of a former vice president and presidential candidate could be accessed without consent, ordinary Nigerians might be even more vulnerable. He therefore called the attention of security agencies and financial regulators to investigate the source of the payment, the identity of the sender and whether any data breach had occurred.

The former vice president said the incident forms part of what he described as a series of suspicious developments ahead of the 2027 general elections, urging authorities to treat the matter with urgency. He stressed that the issue goes beyond politics, saying it raises broader concerns about the security of Nigerians’ personal financial information and the integrity of the country’s banking system. As of the time of his statement, there was no public indication from the relevant authorities identifying the sender or explaining how the transaction occurred.
