Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has condemned the arrest of the Secretary to the State Government, Teslim Igbalaiye, and five others by the police, describing the operation as politically motivated and an attempt to intimidate officials of his administration ahead of the August 15 governorship election. The state government alleged that heavily armed police officers raided the SSG’s residence without a search warrant and also targeted the homes of other senior government officials.

In a statement issued by the Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Kolapo Alimi, the government accused the Osun State Police Command of acting in the interest of the opposition and warned that the raids posed a threat to democracy and the conduct of a free and fair election. The Adeleke campaign also demanded the immediate release of those arrested, alleging that several supporters had been detained without formal charges.

The police have maintained that the arrests were part of an ongoing investigation linked to alleged electoral offences and recovered items, insisting that their actions were based on intelligence and not political considerations. The development has further heightened tensions as political parties prepare for the upcoming governorship election in Osun State.
