The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has extended the collection of Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) for the August 15, 2026, Osun State governorship election until July 31, following complaints of large crowds and difficulties experienced by voters at collection centres. The commission said the extension is intended to give more eligible voters the opportunity to obtain their PVCs and participate in the election.
Speaking at an expanded stakeholders’ meeting in Osogbo, INEC Chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan, said the commission had completed its readiness assessment and was fully prepared to conduct a credible poll. He stressed that the outcome of the election would be decided by the ballots cast by voters, not by intimidation or violence, while urging political parties, security agencies, and supporters to maintain peace throughout the electoral process.
INEC also encouraged all registered voters who are yet to collect their PVCs to take advantage of the extended deadline. The commission reaffirmed its commitment to delivering a free, fair, transparent, and peaceful election despite recent security concerns in parts of the state.
