Nigeria Pushes Digital Infrastructure Investment to Support $1tn Economy Target

Nigeria is looking to attract more investment into telecommunications and digital infrastructure as the country continues to pursue its long-term ambition of building a $1 trillion economy.

Stakeholders at the Nigeria Digital Connectivity Investment Forum in Abuja said stronger broadband infrastructure and wider digital connectivity would be important to achieving greater economic productivity.

The forum, organised by the Nigerian Communications Commission and its partners, brought together policymakers and industry executives to discuss investment opportunities and challenges within Nigeria’s digital sector.

The discussions focused on the need to close connectivity gaps and create an environment capable of attracting more private investment.

Industry stakeholders also highlighted challenges including high energy costs and regulatory issues that can affect the expansion of digital infrastructure.

The National Information Technology Development Agency has similarly called for increased investment in connectivity, computing infrastructure and digital talent.

NITDA Director-General Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi said Nigeria needs stronger digital infrastructure and skills to accelerate its digital transformation.

The push comes as the government increasingly looks to technology, telecommunications and digital services as important parts of Nigeria’s future economic growth.

The digital sector is also expected to create opportunities for businesses, technology companies, remote workers and young Nigerians who depend on reliable internet access for education and employment.
