Nigeria’s Super Eagles suffered a 3-0 defeat to Guinea-Bissau on Tuesday in their second Group L match of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign.
The match was played at the 24 de Setembro Stadium in Bissau, where the hosts took control of the game and eventually secured a convincing victory.
Guinea-Bissau opened the scoring in the 15th minute through Franculino Djú, who finished an attacking move to give the hosts the lead.
Nigeria struggled to find an equaliser before the break despite attempts to create opportunities in attack.
The hosts doubled their advantage in the second half when Mama Baldé scored in the 66th minute.
Nigeria made changes in an attempt to get back into the match, including the introduction of George Ilenikhena and Raphael Onyedika.
Ilenikhena, who had scored on his Super Eagles debut against Madagascar, came close to reducing the deficit late in the game, but Guinea-Bissau goalkeeper Djoco Embadje made a save to deny him.
Guinea-Bissau then completed the scoring in stoppage time when Álvaro Djaló found the net to make it 3-0.
The result leaves Guinea-Bissau with six points from two matches, while Nigeria have three points after their opening 2-1 comeback victory over Madagascar.
The Super Eagles will now have to focus on their remaining qualifying matches as they continue their campaign for a place at the 2027 AFCON tournament.
