The Dangote Petroleum Refinery has increased the price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), commonly known as petrol, from ₦1,265 to ₦1,350 per litre.
The new price took effect on Saturday, September 12, 2026, representing an ₦85 increase per litre, or about 6.7 per cent. The latest adjustment comes amid a sharp rise in international crude oil prices.
The latest increase is the fourth upward revision of Dangote Refinery’s petrol gantry price since August 21. The refinery had previously adjusted its price from ₦1,165 to ₦1,185 per litre before subsequent increases.
The rise in crude prices has continued to put pressure on domestic fuel prices, as Nigeria’s downstream petroleum market increasingly responds to movements in the international oil market.
The development is likely to increase concerns among motorists, transport operators and businesses already dealing with high operating costs. Any sustained increase in petrol prices could also affect transportation costs and, indirectly, the prices of goods and services across the country.
The latest increase comes as global oil prices have climbed sharply amid geopolitical tensions affecting major oil-producing and shipping regions. The Financial Times reported that crude prices recently reached about $108 per barrel as disruptions around key Middle Eastern shipping routes raised concerns about global energy supplies.
With the Dangote Refinery now supplying a significant share of locally refined petrol, changes in its gantry price are closely watched by marketers and consumers across Nigeria.
