A fresh leadership dispute has erupted within the Nigerian Auctioneers Association (NAA), with Alhaji Musa Kurra and Benjamin Isibor each claiming to be the association’s legitimate president. The disagreement intensified after both factions issued conflicting statements on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission’s (EFCC) electronic auction system, with each side accusing the other of impersonation and relying on separate court judgments to support its claim.
Kurra maintained that he was duly elected at the association’s National Delegates Conference in Ibadan in October 2023 following an order of the National Industrial Court in Bauchi. He argued that his election remains valid and urged government agencies and the public to disregard statements made by Isibor. In response, Isibor insisted that judgments of the FCT High Court, the Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court affirmed his leadership, describing Kurra’s actions as unlawful and subject to contempt proceedings.
The conflicting claims have left the association divided, with both camps asserting legal legitimacy and accusing the other of violating court orders. As of the latest reports, the dispute remains unresolved, with each faction continuing to operate as the recognised leadership of the association while legal proceedings continue.
