FG Lists Seven Mistakes Nigerians Must Avoid When Applying for Government Jobs

The Federal Government has identified seven common mistakes that reduce applicants’ chances of securing public service jobs, urging Nigerians to follow official recruitment procedures and remain vigilant against fraud. The advisory, issued through the Federal Character Commission (FCC), is aimed at helping job seekers avoid errors that could lead to disqualification or financial loss during recruitment exercises.

According to the FCC, applicants should avoid: applying through unverified websites or social media pages; paying anyone to secure a government job; ignoring official application instructions; submitting incomplete or inaccurate information; using fake or altered documents; missing application deadlines; and failing to verify recruitment information through official government channels. The commission stressed that government jobs are not sold and warned that anyone demanding payment for employment is a fraudster.

The Federal Government advised job seekers to rely only on official recruitment portals and announcements from the relevant Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs). It also reminded applicants that the Federal Character Commission does not directly recruit into government institutions, urging the public to report suspected recruitment scams to the appropriate authorities.
