FG Intensifies Rescue Efforts as 15 Schoolgirls Remain Abducted

The Federal Government has announced that efforts are being intensified to rescue 15 schoolgirls who were reportedly abducted, as concerns grow over the safety of students and the security of schools across the country.

The development has renewed attention on the persistent threat of school abductions in Nigeria, particularly in communities where armed groups continue to pose security challenges.

Authorities have indicated that security resources are being deployed to secure the release of the missing students and ensure their safe return to their families.

The abduction has also raised fresh questions about the effectiveness of security arrangements around schools, especially in vulnerable communities.

The Niger State Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Obed Nuhu Nana, said the state government was working with security agencies and other relevant stakeholders to secure the children’s release.

However, the school proprietor, Malam Aminu Abubakar Bako, raised concerns about the response, saying no government official had visited the community and that residents were relying on local vigilantes.

He also disclosed that the kidnappers had contacted the community and demanded a ransom of ₦100 million. They reportedly assured the community that the children were still alive but warned that their safety could not be guaranteed if payment was delayed.

The incident has once again raised serious concerns about the safety of schoolchildren in northern Nigeria and the growing threat of kidnapping.

Parents and residents are calling for urgent action to ensure the safe return of the abducted pupils.

The state government has maintained that rescue efforts are ongoing.
