Raul Jimenez marked his return to Wolverhampton Wanderers with a dramatic stoppage-time penalty as Wolves fought back to draw 2-2 with Blackburn Rovers in their Championship opener at Molineux on Friday. The result prevented a disappointing defeat in Cesar Peixoto’s first game as Wolves manager following their relegation from the Premier League.
Wolves took the lead in the 18th minute through Marshall Munetsi after Fer Lopez released him behind the Blackburn defence. Blackburn responded through Sean McLoughlin before Andri Gudjohnsen put the visitors ahead shortly after half-time. Jimenez then rescued the hosts in the closing moments, converting from the spot after Ryan Alebiosu was penalised for handling Jackson Tchatchoua’s cross.
The 35-year-old Mexican, returning for his second spell at Wolves after helping Mexico reach the 2026 World Cup last 16, said he was delighted to score in his first appearance back. Wolves, among the favourites for promotion, will now look to build momentum as they target an immediate return to the Premier League.
