Tinubu Says New Army Formations Will Strengthen Nigeria’s Response to Insecurity

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has said the establishment of new Nigerian Army formations in Zamfara, Kebbi, Oyo and Osun states will strengthen the country’s response to insecurity and bring security forces closer to vulnerable communities.

The President made the statement as the military continues efforts to improve its operational capacity and respond more quickly to security threats across different parts of the country. According to reports by Punch, the new formations are expected to improve the Army’s ability to monitor and respond to emerging threats, particularly in areas facing banditry and other security challenges.

Tinubu said the new formations would help position troops closer to communities that require greater security attention. The move is part of wider efforts by the Federal Government and the military authorities to strengthen security operations and improve coordination in affected areas.

The decision comes amid continuing concerns over attacks by bandits and other criminal groups in parts of northern Nigeria, while some states in the South-West have also continued to strengthen their security arrangements.

The establishment of the formations is expected to support faster deployment of troops, improve intelligence gathering and enhance coordination between the military and other security agencies operating in the affected states.

The President’s administration has repeatedly identified improved national security as one of its major priorities, particularly as insecurity continues to affect communities, farming activities, businesses and movement across some parts of the country.

Tinubu’s latest position also comes as state governments and security agencies continue to seek stronger federal intervention in areas experiencing persistent security challenges.

The Federal Government is expected to continue expanding military and security infrastructure as part of its broader strategy to protect communities and improve the country’s overall security situation.
