Arsenal wrapped up their pre-season campaign with a 3-1 defeat to Spanish side Real Betis at Dublin’s Aviva Stadium. Betis raced into a two-goal lead through Rodrigo Riquelme and Nelson Deossa before Piero Hincapié pulled one back for the Gunners with a header from a Christos Tzolis corner. However, Pablo Fornals restored Betis’ two-goal advantage before half-time to seal the victory.
Mikel Arteta made several changes after the break, handing first pre-season appearances to Gabriel Magalhães and Gabriel Martinelli, but Arsenal were unable to mount a comeback. Defensive errors, including one from goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga, proved costly as the Premier League champions suffered their first defeat of pre-season.
Despite the setback, Arsenal will now turn their attention to the start of the competitive campaign, with the coaching staff expected to use the defeat as an opportunity to fine-tune the squad ahead of the new season.
