France’s Kylian Mbappé now tops the overall World Cup scoring chart with 22 goals, followed by Argentina’s Lionel Messi with 21, while Germany’s Miroslav Klose sits third with 16.
Among the national records, Brazil’s all-time World Cup goalscoring honour belongs to Ronaldo Nazário, Portugal’s to Cristiano Ronaldo, England’s to Harry Kane, and Nigeria’s to Ahmed Musa, who remains the Super Eagles’ highest scorer in World Cup history with four goals. The list also reflects the growing impact of current stars, with several active players either extending or closing in on their national records.
FIFA also noted that three countries are still waiting for their first-ever World Cup goal despite participating in the tournament.
