Former Anambra State governor Peter Obi has urged members of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) to avoid internal litigation, warning that frequent court cases could weaken the party’s chances ahead of the 2027 elections. He made the appeal shortly after formally aligning with the party alongside other opposition figures. 
Speaking in a video message, Obi stressed the need for discipline, unity, and focus, noting that internal legal disputes have historically destabilised political parties in Nigeria. He openly cautioned members against rushing to court over disagreements, insisting that the priority should be building a strong political platform rather than engaging in prolonged legal battles. 
Obi also appealed to the judiciary to help reduce politically driven cases, arguing that constant litigation distracts from nation-building efforts. He framed his message around a broader vision of creating a functional political alternative, warning that actions capable of causing division at this stage could derail the party’s growth. 
The call comes amid ongoing political realignments and coalition efforts within Nigeria’s opposition, with leaders seeking to form a united front capable of challenging the ruling party in the next general election.
