Nollywood actress Atinuke Remilekun Kareem has died after a prolonged battle with breast cancer. Her death was announced on Tuesday by Owolabi Ajasa, the Ogun State chapter governor of the Theatre Arts and Motion Pictures Practitioners Association of Nigeria (TAMPAN), in a statement expressing appreciation to colleagues, fans and well-wishers who supported her during her illness.
Kareem had previously made a public appeal for financial assistance, revealing that her family had spent heavily on her treatment and that the support she received from TAMPAN was insufficient to cover her medical expenses. In an emotional video, she appealed to Nigerians for help, saying she had two young children and did not want to die from the illness.
TAMPAN Ogun expressed deep sorrow over her death and thanked everyone who contributed financially, offered prayers or provided encouragement during her treatment. Kareem’s passing comes shortly after the death of veteran Yoruba actor Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, who also died following a battle with cancer.
