\n\nThe National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) has explained why it did not detect the alleged sexual assaults linked to a controversial festival in Ozoro, Delta State, stating that it had no prior knowledge of the incident. The agency said it only became aware after disturbing videos surfaced online, showing women being harassed and assaulted during the event, which sparked nationwide outrage and condemnation. 
According to NAPTIP, its delayed response was largely due to the absence of an operational office in Delta State, limiting its ability to monitor activities or gather intelligence in the area. The agency emphasized that its operations are intelligence-driven and depend heavily on reports, tips, or prior alerts before intervention can occur, noting that it “cannot be everywhere at all times” and requires public cooperation to identify such threats early. 
The incident, reportedly linked to a local festival, has raised serious concerns about harmful cultural practices and gender-based violence, with unverified reports suggesting cases of rape alongside public molestation. NAPTIP condemned the acts as gross violations of human rights and commended the Nigeria Police Force for arresting suspects, including alleged organisers, while pledging continued support to ensure justice for victims and prevent a recurrence.
