France to Support Nigeria with Military Equipment After Tinubu–Macron Talks
\n\nPresident Bola Ahmed Tinubu has secured fresh military cooperation from Emmanuel Macron following a high-level phone conversation between the two leaders, as Nigeria intensifies efforts to tackle worsening insecurity. The agreement, disclosed during a meeting with state governors in Lagos, includes French support in the form of military equipment and training for Nigerian security forces.

Tinubu explained that the partnership is part of a broader strategy to strengthen Nigeria’s defence capabilities, revealing that discussions around acquiring advanced equipment also featured prominently during his recent visit to the United Kingdom. He emphasized that his administration is actively engaging multiple international partners and is willing to leverage existing goodwill and credit arrangements to secure the necessary tools to combat terrorism and violent crime across the country.

The development comes amid renewed security concerns, including recent deadly attacks in Maiduguri that highlighted ongoing threats from insurgent groups such as Boko Haram and other armed networks. Analysts view the France–Nigeria collaboration as part of a wider diplomatic push to strengthen counter-terrorism operations, with Tinubu stressing that insecurity remains a major obstacle to national development and must be collectively addressed to ensure stability and economic progress.
