\n\nThe Nigeria Football Federation has filed an appeal after FIFA rejected Nigeria’s petition challenging the eligibility of some DR Congo national football team players in their 2026 World Cup playoff clash. The federation had alleged irregularities in the players’ documentation, particularly concerning passport issuance, following Nigeria’s elimination from the qualifiers. 
Nigeria lost the playoff match on penalties after a 1–1 draw in Rabat, Morocco, but later lodged a complaint insisting that some Congolese players did not meet eligibility requirements. After reviewing the case, FIFA’s Disciplinary Committee dismissed the petition, ruling that there was no sufficient basis to overturn the match result. 
Despite the setback, the NFF has confirmed it is not satisfied with the verdict and has immediately begun the appeal process, signaling its determination to pursue the matter further through football’s legal channels. Meanwhile, DR Congo continues preparations for the next stage of the World Cup qualification playoffs, with Nigeria’s hopes now hinging on the outcome of the appeal.
