The Federal Government has set a target of creating one million export-linked jobs by 2030 as Nigeria seeks to expand its participation in the global outsourcing and digitally enabled services market.
The target is being pursued through the government’s “Hire From Nigeria” campaign, which is focused on connecting Nigerian talent with international employers and increasing the country’s share of the global services industry.
The initiative is expected to focus on developing globally competitive skills among Nigerians while helping businesses access workers for areas such as technology, customer support, business-process outsourcing, digital services and other remote-work opportunities.
The government is also targeting the development of 10 million globally certified Nigerians as part of the broader plan to build a workforce capable of competing for international opportunities.
Officials say the strategy could help Nigeria earn more foreign exchange from services exports while creating employment opportunities for young Nigerians without requiring them to leave the country.
The push comes as companies globally increasingly use remote and digitally delivered services, creating opportunities for countries with large, skilled and English-speaking workforces.
For Nigeria, expanding the outsourcing sector could also support small businesses, technology companies and professionals providing services to international clients.
The government has therefore been engaging private-sector stakeholders and international partners to strengthen training, certification and access to global markets.
If implemented effectively, the programme would position skills development and services exports as an increasingly important part of Nigeria’s economic diversification strategy.
