Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency have intercepted two consignments of synthetic cannabis, popularly known as Colorado, weighing 44.45 kilogrammes in consolidated cargoes from the United Kingdom. The agency also recovered additional consignments of the illicit substance concealed inside music speakers at two motor parks in Lagos. According to a statement issued by the NDLEA Director of Media and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi, several suspects linked to the shipments have been arrested.The agency disclosed that one of the intercepted consignments was intended for Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, and subsequently Liberia. A 41-year-old tour agent, Ifeanyi Obed Augustine, and the alleged owner of the consignment, 46-year-old Obasi Ugochukwu, were arrested following a sting operation at a nearby eatery. In a separate operation at Iddo Park, Lagos, NDLEA officers arrested Ifeanyi Nwokolo Henry on September 11 while he was allegedly attempting to dispatch 2.1 kilogrammes of Colorado to Kano. The agency also recovered other controlled substances, including tramadol, codeine syrup, pentazocine and MDMA, in operations across Delta State.Further arrests and seizures were recorded in Kano, Plateau, Edo, Ondo, Kaduna and Bayelsa states. In Kano, officers recovered 785,000 capsules of pregabalin weighing 669.425 kilogrammes, while 1,700 diazepam tablets were allegedly found concealed in loaves of bread. The agency also reported the destruction of more than 4.8 tonnes of cannabis in Edo State and the recovery of additional large consignments of cannabis in Ondo, Kaduna and Bayelsa. NDLEA Chairman, Brigadier General Mohamed Buba Marwa (retd.), commended the officers involved and urged them to sustain efforts to disrupt drug trafficking networks across Nigeria.
