The Nigerian military has rescued 21 kidnapped victims, including 15 members of the National Youth Service Corps, from the Egume–Ochaja forest stretch in Kogi State. The victims, comprising eight males and 13 females, were rescued during an ongoing military operation several days after the corps members and other travellers were abducted while travelling from Abuja to Bayelsa State.
Director of Defence Media Operations, Maj. Gen. Michael Onoja, confirmed the rescue while providing an update on military operations across the country. He said the operation was conducted within the military’s 2 Division area of responsibility, with troops continuing efforts to locate and rescue other kidnapped persons.
The military also assured residents of Borgu Local Government Area of Niger State that operations would continue against terrorists and other criminal groups holding abducted residents. Authorities said security agencies are working together through intelligence sharing and coordinated operations to identify areas requiring intervention and improve the safety of affected communities.
