Borno State Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Sainna Buba, has sparked controversy after threatening to flog people who refuse to support the All Progressives Congress in the 2027 general elections. Buba made the remarks during the inauguration of a campaign organised by the Tinubu City Boy Movement, a group supporting President Bola Tinubu’s re-election. He said the party was currently using persuasion but could resort to force against those opposing it.

In a video circulating online, the commissioner warned that those who criticise the APC would face consequences, saying supporters of the party would benefit from its government while those who refused to follow it would be “flogged.” He also alleged that some individuals had been attacking the government on TikTok and warned that the party would respond to what he described as malicious criticism.

The comments have raised concerns about the tone of political rhetoric ahead of the 2027 elections, particularly regarding voters’ freedom to support parties of their choice. The remarks also come shortly after similar controversy involving other political figures over statements interpreted as threats against opposition supporters, prompting renewed calls for politicians to avoid inflammatory language during the electoral season.
