A newborn baby girl has been rescued alive after she was allegedly abandoned inside a carton near Ashar Forest in Wuese community, Konshisha Local Government Area of Benue State. The infant was reportedly discovered on Saturday by a passerby, Mrs Mbakasev Yisa, who found her wrapped in clothes inside the carton.
According to a councillor representing the area, Gabriel Mbaukaan, the baby was in critical condition when she was found, with maggots reportedly crawling around her body and a foul smell coming from the carton. The circumstances surrounding her birth and the identity of her mother remain unknown, while efforts are expected to be made to ensure the child receives medical attention and proper care.
The discovery has raised concern among residents over the circumstances that led to the newborn being abandoned in a forested area. Authorities are expected to investigate the incident and establish the identity of those responsible for abandoning the infant.
