The Nigeria Police Force, working with INTERPOL, has rescued two Colombian nationals allegedly lured to Nigeria and held captive by a suspected human trafficking syndicate in Lagos. The victims, identified as Maria Camila Rodas Ortiz and Yuliet Fernanda Rios Mesa, were rescued by operatives of the National Central Bureau of INTERPOL, Lagos Annex, following intelligence from INTERPOL-NCB in Bogotá.
According to the police, the women were located at a suspected trafficking hideout after operatives launched a covert tracking operation. Authorities said the victims had allegedly been deceived into travelling to Nigeria before being confined by members of the syndicate. The rescue operation was conducted after Colombian authorities provided actionable intelligence about their situation.
Police said efforts are ongoing to apprehend other members of the syndicate, while the rescued women are receiving necessary assistance and are expected to be reunited with their families in Colombia.
