The Eselu of Iselu Kingdom in Yewa North, Ogun State, Oba Akintunde Akinyemi, has urged residents, the media and civil society organisations to thoroughly investigate all candidates seeking to succeed Governor Dapo Abiodun in the 2027 governorship election. He said the scrutiny should cover their competence, track records, credentials and family backgrounds, stressing that the people would ultimately bear the consequences of whoever they elect.
The monarch also called on the leadership of the All Progressives Congress to resolve the lingering dispute between Senator Olamilekan Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, and Abayomi Hunye over the party’s governorship primary. He questioned the reported zero votes recorded for Hunye, arguing that if the aspirant participated in the primary, he should at least have voted for himself. Hunye has challenged the outcome in court, while the APC has maintained that he was suspended and accused him of impersonation.
While acknowledging the demand for Ogun West to produce the next governor after years of alleged marginalisation, Akinyemi cautioned that zoning should not come at the expense of competence and good governance. He urged traditional rulers to remain politically neutral while encouraging voters to carefully assess every candidate before making their choice in 2027.
