A Nigerian man, Samuel Ezekiel, has recounted how his friend, Emmanuel Odeh, allegedly deceived him into undergoing kidney removal at Wellington Hospital in Life Camp, Abuja. Ezekiel said Odeh initially told him they were going to the hospital without fully explaining the procedure. He was later taken for medical tests and allegedly told that his kidney matched a recipient. According to him, his identity was changed to “Hassan Abubakar”, while an affidavit was prepared at the Federal High Court before he underwent the operation on April 24.
Ezekiel said he was given payment in US dollars shortly before entering the theatre but handed the money to Odeh for safekeeping. He alleged that after the surgery, Odeh had changed the money and spent part of it on two phones, two power banks and two Wi-Fi devices, giving Ezekiel one of each. The victim said they remained in the hospital for about a week before travelling to Cross River State, where they stayed for nearly three months. When he later asked about the money, he said Odeh told him it had been spent and eventually sold his phone to raise transport money back to Abuja.
The account emerged as the Nigeria Police Force intensified investigations into an alleged organ-harvesting syndicate operating in Abuja and Nasarawa State. Police have paraded several suspects, including two nephrologists and alleged recruiters, accusing the network of targeting vulnerable people and facilitating kidney removals through false representations and forged documentation. Investigations are ongoing as authorities work to identify other individuals allegedly connected to the operation.
