The Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission has called for the speedy completion of its proposed 10-storey headquarters, known as The Barrel, in Abuja, saying the project would improve the commission’s operational efficiency and strengthen Nigeria’s appeal to oil and gas investors. The NUPRC has set the first quarter of 2027 as the target for completing the facility.

The commission said having a permanent, modern headquarters would enhance coordination and provide a stronger institutional image for Nigeria’s upstream petroleum regulator. The development comes as the country seeks to attract fresh investments into its oil and gas sector amid ongoing reforms under the Petroleum Industry Act.

The NUPRC recently disclosed that 22 major offshore projects expected between 2026 and 2030 could attract an estimated $30bn–$50bn in investment, while more than $57bn in Field Development Plans had been approved since 2024. The commission said these investments could increase production, create jobs, strengthen energy security and reinforce Nigeria’s position as a global upstream investment destination.
