Senate President Godswill Akpabio has defended the economic record of President Bola Tinubu’s administration, saying the government inherited an economy in “shambles” when it assumed office in 2023. Akpabio claimed that 27 states were unable to pay workers’ salaries and pensions at the time, but said the situation had improved following the administration’s economic reforms.

Speaking in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, while receiving members of the Senate Committee on Tertiary Institutions, TETFund and NELFund, Akpabio said the All Progressives Congress would have enough achievements to present to Nigerians during the 2027 election campaign. He highlighted the administration’s policies in areas including the economy, agriculture, security, education and fiscal policy.

Akpabio also praised the 10th National Assembly, saying it had enacted legislation benefiting Nigerians, particularly through TETFund and NELFund initiatives. He expressed confidence that Nigerians would re-elect Tinubu in 2027, while urging lawmakers to remain focused on their responsibilities rather than what he described as misleading narratives on social media.
