The Edo State House of Assembly has formally impeached its suspended Speaker, Blessing Agbebaku, who represents Owan West Constituency 1. The action was announced during plenary on Monday, August 24, 2026, after Agbebaku had resigned as Speaker a week earlier amid moves by lawmakers to remove him.

Following the impeachment, the Assembly directed Agbebaku to return all government property in his possession. The new Speaker, Yekini Idiaye, warned that security agencies would be engaged if the former Speaker failed to comply with the directive. Idiaye had assumed the speakership after Agbebaku’s resignation on August 17.

Agbebaku’s removal brings to an end his tenure as head of the Edo Assembly, a position he had held since 2023. His exit followed reported internal moves to impeach him, culminating in his resignation before the House formally completed the impeachment process.
