Alaafin Mourns Ogogo, Describes Him as a Fallen Great Tree

The Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Akeem Owoade, has expressed condolences to the family, colleagues and admirers of veteran Nollywood actor Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, following his death at the age of 66. The monarch described the late actor as a “fallen great tree” whose roots and fruits would continue to nourish generations.

Ogogo died on Sunday, August 23, 2026, after battling stage-four cancer. His death has sparked widespread mourning across Nollywood and the Yoruba cultural community, with colleagues and prominent Nigerians paying tribute to his contributions to the entertainment industry.

The Alaafin’s tribute adds to the growing list of condolences for the actor, whose career spanned more than four decades and helped promote Yoruba culture through film and theatre. Ogogo was laid to rest in Ilaro, Ogun State, on Monday, August 24, according to his burial arrangements.
