Veteran Nollywood actor and screenwriter Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, will be laid to rest in his hometown, Ilaro, Ogun State, on Monday, August 24, following his death at the age of 66. Hassan died at about 3 p.m. on Sunday, August 23, after battling cancer, according to an announcement by fellow veteran actor Jide Kosoko.
Kosoko announced that the actor’s remains would be taken to Ilaro on Sunday, with a lying-in-state ceremony scheduled for 11 a.m. on Monday at the Pavillon in Ilaro. The announcement urged family members, friends, colleagues and fans to pray for the deceased and support his loved ones during the mourning period.
Ogogo was one of the prominent figures in Yoruba-language cinema, with a career spanning more than four decades. His death has triggered tributes across Nigeria’s entertainment industry, with colleagues and public figures describing his passing as a major loss to Nollywood and the wider creative sector.
