Veteran Nollywood actor and filmmaker Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, has died at the age of 66 after battling stage-four cancer. His death was confirmed on Sunday, August 23, 2026, by multiple sources, including Best of Nollywood founder Seun Oloketuyi, while his daughter, Kaira Taiwo, was seen mourning her father during an emotional Instagram Live session.
The actor’s death came days after his daughters, Kaira and Lima, appealed for medical assistance, revealing that his condition had deteriorated and that chemotherapy was no longer an option. Medical experts subsequently explained that patients with advanced cancer may be moved to palliative care when further disease-directed treatment is no longer considered appropriate.
Ogogo, who was born in Ilaro, Ogun State, on October 31, 1959, built a career spanning more than four decades and became one of the most recognisable figures in Yoruba-language cinema. His death has prompted tributes from colleagues, fans and public figures, while his remains are expected to be buried in Ilaro on Monday, August 24, according to a burial announcement by veteran actor Jide Kosoko.
