Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency have arrested 101-year-old Esther Ogunmabo for allegedly selling illicit drugs in Ilisan, Ogun State. The centenarian was arrested on August 15 with 90 grammes of skunk, a strain of cannabis, packaged in retail sachets for sale to residents.
According to NDLEA spokesman Femi Babafemi, Ogunmabo told investigators that she turned to the drug trade after her provisions shop was destroyed by fire. She allegedly said one of her daughters, who lives in Lagos, supplied her with the cannabis every four days, which she then sold in small quantities.
NDLEA Chairman Buba Marwa reportedly directed that the 101-year-old be granted bail and placed under counselling because of her advanced age, while the daughter accused of supplying the drugs was arrested. The agency also reported other drug seizures and arrests in separate operations across the country.
