Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has explained that he would not have accepted the Director-General position of the All Progressives Congress 2027 Presidential Campaign Council, saying he does not want to risk losing political influence in Rivers State and the FCT. Wike also noted that he is not an APC member, making the position inappropriate for him.

Wike cited previous presidential campaign directors-general who failed to deliver their home states to their candidates. He referenced Rotimi Amaechi, Bukola Saraki, Aminu Tambuwal and Simon Lalong, arguing that holding a prominent campaign position is meaningless if the person cannot secure victory in their own political stronghold.

The former Rivers State governor said his priority is to ensure that both Rivers State and the FCT benefit from effective governance and that he would continue supporting President Bola Tinubu’s re-election despite not belonging to the APC. Former Zamfara Governor Abdulaziz Yari was recently appointed Director-General of Tinubu’s 2027 campaign council.
