Lagos State University has begun investigating allegations that lecturers failed to upload students’ examination results, reportedly leaving more than 100 students facing delayed graduation and the possibility of spending an additional year at the institution. The controversy surfaced online after claims that some students had been waiting for results dating back to their 300-level studies.
The allegations have also raised concerns about current 400-level students, with claims that more than 1,000 students across different levels in the affected department may be experiencing related academic difficulties. Two lecturers have been mentioned in the allegations, including claims that a Head of Department threatened some affected students, although LASU has not found the lecturers culpable and said its investigation is ongoing.
The National Association of Nigerian Students and the Joint Campus Committee, Lagos Axis, have opened discussions with LASU management over the matter. NANS President Akinteye Babatunde urged affected students to remain calm, saying the university management had assured student representatives that the issue would be addressed the following week.
