\n\nPublisher and chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Dele Momodu, has said he would give President Bola Tinubu his full support if the President remains committed to the democratic principles Nigerians fought for during the military era.
Momodu made the statement during an interview on Arise TV, where he expressed concern about the possibility of Nigeria moving from military dictatorship to what he described as “civilian dictatorship.
The former presidential aspirant said his criticism of the Tinubu administration should not be interpreted as a personal opposition to the President. According to him, his primary concern is the preservation of democracy, constitutional governance and the rights of Nigerians.
Momodu stressed that if Tinubu demonstrates genuine commitment to democratic values and good governance, he would be willing to support the President despite their political differences.
He further argued that political leaders should be judged by their actions and commitment to democratic principles rather than party affiliation.
His comments come amid increasing political discussions ahead of the 2027 presidential election, with opposition parties, including the ADC, positioning themselves for a major challenge to the ruling All Progressives Congress.
Momodu has been increasingly vocal about the direction of the country and has previously criticised some policies of the Tinubu administration. However, his latest remarks indicate that his opposition is conditional and centred largely on what he considers the need to protect Nigeria’s democratic institutions.
