\n\nIt has ordered a forensic investigation into the systems that enabled the emergence and operation of fake government agencies, following revelations linked to the unauthorized Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC).
The directive was approved by the Federal Executive Council (FEC) after the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) reportedly uncovered additional fake agencies operating within government structures.
Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Taiwo Oyedele, announced the decision after the FEC meeting chaired by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in Abuja.
The scope of the probe will cover government procedures, internal controls, and existing safeguards to identify weaknesses that allowed the creation of unauthorized agencies. It will also extend to the Integrated Personnel and Payroll Information System (IPPIS), where investigators are expected to detect possible ghost workers and other payroll irregularities.
According to the government, the exercise is designed not only to address the current controversy but also to prevent similar occurrences in the future. It forms part of broader efforts by the Tinubu administration to strengthen accountability, close systemic loopholes, and improve the management of public resources.
Oyedele noted that preliminary findings had exposed significant weaknesses in existing systems, underscoring the need to reinforce internal controls across ministries, departments, and agencies.
The investigation is expected to produce recommendations aimed at improving oversight and driving reforms across the Federal Government’s administrative and payroll systems.
