\n\nNigeria is set to take another major step towards the digital transformation of Hajj operations following a new partnership between the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) and the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON).
The two agencies reached an agreement on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, to work towards fully digitising Nigeria’s Hajj operations, with the aim of making the pilgrimage process more efficient, transparent and technology-driven.
The agreement was reached during a high-level meeting at NITDA’s headquarters in Abuja. The partnership is expected to introduce stronger digital systems into different stages of the Hajj process, potentially improving registration, documentation, data management and coordination between Nigerian pilgrims and relevant authorities.
The initiative forms part of the Federal Government’s wider push to expand the use of technology in public-sector services. By reducing dependence on manual processes, digital systems could help minimise delays, improve access to information and make it easier for authorities to monitor and coordinate pilgrimage activities.
The collaboration between NITDA and NAHCON also highlights the growing role of technology in religious and public-service administration in Nigeria.
If successfully implemented, the digital Hajj framework could provide Nigerian pilgrims with a more seamless experience, while giving government agencies better access to accurate information and real-time operational data.
The development is expected to be particularly significant for future Hajj seasons as Nigeria continues to expand its digital infrastructure and integrate technology into major government services.
