The Nigerian Navy has commenced its first intra-command maritime tactical live-firing exercise, codenamed Exercise Littoral Fury, in Cross River State to strengthen the operational readiness of its personnel. The exercise, organised by the Eastern Naval Command, is focused on improving weapon-handling skills and preparing officers to operate effectively across creeks, waterways and coastal areas.
Speaking at the exercise, the Chief of Naval Operations, Rear Admiral Patrick Effah, said marksmanship remains a fundamental combat skill that naval personnel must continuously develop. He said the training would improve the Navy’s effectiveness in tackling maritime threats, including piracy, sea robbery, illegal oil bunkering and crude oil theft, while also enhancing cooperation with other security agencies.
Effah urged participants to strictly follow safety regulations and range procedures, stressing that realistic training was essential to maintaining combat readiness. He also commended the Cross River State Government for supporting the Navy, particularly through logistics provided for establishing a naval outpost at Dayspring Island.
