\n\nThe Federal Government has commissioned two upgraded electricity substations in Lagos, marking another step towards improving power transmission and strengthening electricity supply in Nigeria’s commercial capital.
The upgraded facilities, located in Apapa and Ijora, were unveiled by the Minister of Power, Joseph Tegbe, as part of efforts by the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) to expand and modernise the country’s electricity infrastructure. The projects are expected to improve the capacity and reliability of electricity transmission within Lagos, particularly in areas with significant commercial and industrial activities. Apapa, in particular, is home to major ports, businesses and industrial facilities whose operations depend heavily on reliable electricity.
The commissioning comes amid renewed government efforts to address persistent challenges within Nigeria’s power sector. Electricity transmission remains a critical part of the power supply chain, linking generation plants to distribution companies and ultimately to homes and businesses.
According to the government, upgrading key substations is important for improving the ability of the national grid to transmit available electricity efficiently and reduce limitations within the transmission network.
