More than 200 professors and other academic staff have reportedly resigned from Kaduna State University over poor working conditions and the university’s failure to implement the 2025 Federal Government–ASUU agreement. The ASUU-KASU chairman, Abubakar Abdullahi, said the agreement took effect in January 2026, but the institution had yet to begin implementing it.
Abdullahi said the union had repeatedly written to the university management, Governing Council and Kaduna State Government, urging them to domesticate and implement the agreement. He warned that continued delays could result in accumulating salary arrears, while the departure of experienced academics could take years for the university to recover from.
ASUU-KASU has consequently issued a two-week ultimatum to the university and other relevant authorities to take concrete steps towards implementing the agreement. The union warned that failure to resolve the issues within the period could trigger a total, comprehensive and indefinite strike at the institution.
