The Nigeria Football Federation has directed the entire technical crew of the Super Falcons to step down with immediate effect following the team’s failure to qualify for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup. The decision was announced by the NFF Executive Committee on Monday, August 17, without providing specific reasons beyond the team’s difficult qualifying campaign.
The Falcons missed out on an automatic World Cup ticket after a disappointing campaign and subsequently lost 2-1 to South Africa in a qualifying playoff, further damaging their hopes of reaching the tournament. Head coach Justine Madugu, who led Nigeria to the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations title, is among those affected by the decision.
The NFF had previously established a committee to investigate the factors behind the team’s failure to qualify. The federation is now expected to make further decisions regarding the appointment of a new technical team as Nigeria seeks to revive its hopes of reaching the World Cup through the remaining qualification route.
