The Council of Legal Education has released a list of 122 universities authorised to admit students into the Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) programme in Nigeria as of August 2026. The council warned prospective students, parents and guardians to verify that their chosen institution is accredited, stressing that graduates of unapproved Law programmes will not be eligible for admission into the Nigerian Law School.
The council also disclosed that some universities on the list are currently under moratorium and cannot admit new Law students during specified academic sessions. These include Baze University, Abuja, which has a three-year moratorium covering 2023/2024 to 2025/2026; Lead City University, Ibadan, with a five-year moratorium through 2027/2028; and the Nigeria Police Academy, Wudil, which has a two-year restriction covering 2024/2025 and 2025/2026.
The Council of Legal Education said the approved-universities list was published to guide prospective Law students and would be updated when necessary. It warned institutions against admitting students into Law without approval, noting that universities found violating the regulations could face sanctions.
