The Borno State Police Command has recovered an unexploded hand grenade from a drainage slab in the Moduganari area of Maiduguri. The command said the discovery was reported at about 12:40pm on Saturday, August 15, prompting operatives from the Explosive Ordnance Disposal-Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear unit to immediately respond and safely recover the device.
The recovered ordnance has been secured for further examination as police investigate its origin and the circumstances surrounding how it was found. The command commended the residents who alerted authorities, stressing that timely reporting of suspicious objects remains crucial to public safety.
Police urged residents to avoid touching, moving or tampering with suspected explosive devices and to immediately notify security agencies when such objects are discovered. The command reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and property across Borno State.
