The Enugu State Police Command has detained 14 suspected members of kidnapping syndicates following intelligence-led operations targeting criminal networks across the state. Commissioner of Police Mamman Giwa disclosed the development at a briefing, saying the operations also led to the recovery of five AK-47 rifles, two pump-action guns, one locally made firearm and ammunition.
Police recovered 310 rounds of live 7.62 x 39mm ammunition, eight cartridges and seven empty AK-47 magazines. According to Giwa, some suspects operated as a coordinated network, with Enugu-based accomplices allegedly providing transportation and intelligence to help the gangs identify targets and evade security surveillance.
The suspects reportedly confessed during interrogation to involvement in several kidnapping incidents across Enugu, including along the Enugu–Ugwuogo–Opi–Nsukka Road and other routes in Ezeagu Local Government Area. The command said investigations are continuing as authorities work to dismantle the wider networks and bring those involved to justice.
