Tinubu Approves New Framework to Unlock $50 Billion in Deep-Offshore Oil Investments

Tinubu Approves New Framework to Unlock $50 Billion in Deep-Offshore Oil Investments
\n\nPresident Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved a new regulatory and fiscal framework designed to attract up to $50 billion in fresh investment into Nigeria’s deep-offshore oil and gas sector.

The reform, announced by the Presidency on August 11, is aimed at replacing the previous project-by-project negotiation approach with a more transparent and predictable investment framework. The government says the move is intended to revive major offshore projects that have remained stalled for years because of regulatory uncertainty and investment concerns.

According to the Presidency, the new framework is expected to provide investors with greater certainty and improve Nigeria’s competitiveness in the global oil and gas market. It is also intended to support the development of large-scale offshore projects requiring significant capital and advanced technology.

The government believes the initiative could unlock substantial foreign capital, increase oil production, strengthen government revenues and create opportunities across Nigeria’s energy industry.

The development comes as the Tinubu administration continues to pursue reforms aimed at attracting investment into strategic sectors of the economy. The Presidency described the offshore framework as a major step towards repositioning Nigeria as a more attractive destination for long-term energy investments.

If successfully implemented, the expected investment could also stimulate activities in supporting industries, including engineering, construction, logistics and other oilfield services.
