Lagos State University has named Ayilara Olawale and Adebanjo Oluolamide as its overall best graduating students for the 2024/2025 and 2025/2026 academic sessions respectively. Olawale, from the Department of Project Management Technology, emerged as the best graduating student for the 2024/2025 session with a 4.96 CGPA, earning First Class Honours. Oluolamide, an Aerospace Engineering graduate, took the top spot for the 2025/2026 session with an impressive 4.97 CGPA. The university announced the achievements ahead of its combined 29th and 30th convocation ceremonies.
The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, disclosed the results during a press conference on Wednesday, revealing that LASU will graduate more than 20,000 students across the two academic sessions, including 494 first-class graduates. Olawale described his achievement as a product of discipline, endurance and divine grace. He graduated with a B.Tech (Honours) in Project Management Technology and had previously participated in the Project1500 initiative and the Millennium Fellowship, LASU Cohort. He dedicated the recognition to God and expressed optimism about pursuing bigger dreams and making a positive impact.
Oluolamide also attributed his academic success to God’s grace, while highlighting his involvement in research and other extracurricular activities during his undergraduate years. Before receiving the overall best-graduating-student honour, he had already been named Scholar of the Year at the AESA-LASU Dinner for the second time. He also revealed that two of his research papers had been accepted for presentation at the Society of Petroleum Engineers’ NAICE 2026 conference in Lagos, although he had appealed for financial support to cover the ₦200,000 cost of attending the conference. LASU’s combined convocation ceremonies are scheduled to hold from August 14 to 23, with thousands of graduates expected to receive their degrees.
